Agape

Whether looking at it as an adverb, adjective or a noun… I can’t conceive of a more perfect word to accompany homeschooling.  Just reading the definitions gives a sense of purpose and direction for the day.

agape [uh-geyp, uh-gap]  adverb, adjective

1. with the mouth wide open, as in wonder, surprise, or eagerness:
“We stood there agape at the splendor.”
2. wide open:
“his mouth agape.”

agape [ah-gah-pey, ah-guh-pey, ag-uh-]  noun, plural

1. the love of God or Christ for humankind.
2. the love of Christians for other persons, corresponding to the love of God for humankind.
3. unselfish love of one person for another without sexual implications; brotherly love.
4. love feast

How are we going to approach the day? With the goal that each child will be full of “wonder, surprise, eagerness”. “Mouth wide open”… just as a newborn baby bird in the nest… neck stretched… waiting for mama bird to come with nourishment.

How do we do this?  With Christ-like love for our children. Unselfish love that mirrors the love of God for mankind.  A “love feast”.

Is this going to be easy?  NO.  It will be difficult… and it will seem next to impossible at times.

But you are not alone.

“I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.” ~ Philippians 4:13

Just as you are with your children, God is with you… You are His child.  The agape love you hope to mirror towards your children… God, without fail, has for YOU.
